Call To Artists
The Hillsborough Arts Council seeks submissions for a themed exhibition, “Traditional Crafts - Past and Present Perspectives: Quilts, Woodcraft and Basketry,” to be held in the HAC Gallery from October 28, 2011, to January 7, 2012.
The show is envisioned to include quilts of varied sizes including standard and smaller-scale quilts. Examples of woodcraft items include furniture, bowls, pens and desk items.
Application Deadline
August 19 2011
Eligibility
Artists living or who have studios in Orange, Alamance, Chatham, Durham or Wake counties are eligible.
Requirements
-Original works of art, handcrafted by the artist
-Any media
-Work must fit through a 2.5’ x 6’ doorway.
-All works must be of material stable enough to withstand handling and exhibiting, suitably framed and/or prepared for installation.
-Artworks should be for sale and can be restocked periodically, as items are sold, throughout the duration of the exhibition.
-The HAC will take a 30% commission.
Delivery and Removal of Work
Drop off artworks on Monday October 24
5:30 to 7:30 pm
Or
Tuesday October 25
1:00 to 4:00 pm
Pick up artworks on Saturday, January 7, 2012.
Steps required to submit a valid entry application:
1. Complete the online application
2. Download and print out the Entry Application PDF
3. Prepare 5 digital images on CD (7 inches maximum for longest dimension, 300 dpi)
Images do not have to represent actual artwork that will be shown in the exhibition.
4. Prepare a current one-page resume.
5. Enclose $10.00 application fee.
6. This package including all above items must be received by US postal delivery no later than 5 pm, Aug 19, 2011.
Note: materials will not be returned - be sure you make a copy for your files.
Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Notification
The HAC Gallery Selection Committee will notify artists selected for exhibition via email or telephone by September 10, 2011
Other Obligations
Artists must bring suitable hanging and display materials including display cases, pedestals and quilt racks, as needed to display their pieces. We also ask that the artist volunteer to work at least two three-hour shifts of gallery sitting during their exhibition period, if possible.
Rights and Conditions
The HAC reserves the right to photograph and reproduce artwork accepted for exhibition for publicity and educational purposes. Submission of materials for consideration constitutes an agreement on the part of the artist to the conditions set forth by the submission guidelines and requirements.
The HAC will take all care and precaution of works of art submitted for this exhibition. At this time the HAC does not carry liability insurance to cover damage to or theft of artworks. Insurance of the artworks will be the responsibility of the artist.
