Art forum thanks - December 2007
Dear all,We wanted to thank all of you who came to the Art Forum held last Saturday, December 8. It was a fantastic turnout for an early-morning event in the middle of the Holiday season. Over 70 people attended, and many enthusiastic ideas were shared. We accomplished our goals, which were to assess the art and culture we already enjoy in town, to envision the arts in Hillsborough five years from now, and to begin to form a new committee to help make that vision a reality.
Special thanks go to our co-sponsor, the Town of Hillsborough, and, in particular, Mayor Tom Stevens. Michael Malone delivered a memorable opening address--many were sorry it was not recorded for the town archives. We received free breakfast goodies from Weaver Street Market and coffee from Joe Van Gogh. First Baptist Church in Hillsborough was very gracious to allow us to use their Fellowship Hall for the meeting. Thanks to all the organizations who lent innumerable flipcharts and pads. Thanks to Jim Adams for the parade float advertising the event. Thanks to Jon Wilner and Lauren Hodge for their key advice and energy. Lastly, we need to thank our facilitator, Bill Flexner, who came to us with a week's notice and ran a great meeting that helped us meet our goals. With Bill's help, we are preparing the detailed results from the meeting, which we will share with you in the new year both electronically and via snail mail. A summary of the report is on our website (ww.hillsboroughartscouncil org).
We are looking forward to the building of a committee to move this process forward. At the end of the meeting several people signed up to be part of the continued process of creating "our vision for the Hillsborough Art Scene 2013." If we missed you, and you'd like to participate, please email us at info@hillsboroughartscouncil.org.
Also, if you are interested in getting involved with the Hillsborough Arts Council in general, please let us know by emailing or calling 919-643-2500, and be sure to come to our monthly meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday at 7 p.m. at 102 N Churton St. at the Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce at the corner of Churton and King St.
Again, thank you for helping to make the arts part of the fabric of our lives in Hillsborough.

Come Dream With Us: Creating A Vision for the Arts in Hillsborough... December 8, 2007
Are
you a member of the arts community, the business community, or an avid
patron/participant in the arts, living in or near Hillsborough? The Hillsborough Arts Council and Town of Hillsborough invites the community to come together on Dec 8 to discuss how to create a more vibrant and comprehensive art scene for Hillsborough’s future. The meeting — Come Dream with Us: Creating a Vision for the Arts in Hillsborough — will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 201 W. King St.
“We are really hoping to pull all the interested parties out of the woodwork for this event,” Hillsborough Arts Council member John Delconte said. “This meeting is meant to include everyone: dancers, theater people, visual artists, writers, etc., those who patronize the arts, parents who want their children to have the opportunity to participate in the arts, and community leaders who realize our town is made stronger by planning for the arts. It will be a step toward deciding if Hillsborough needs an Arts Center, and, if so, what programming the center would provide.”
“We would love it if everyone who wants to see arts opportunities expand in the town would get involved and come out and join us, so that we can form a unified vision for the town.”
During the meeting, participants will be asked to imagine the town’s potential cultural landscape and to create a vision of the role arts should play in the town. Another meeting will be scheduled to discuss what spaces are needed for performances, galleries, education, children’s programs, and public art.
Joe Van Gogh and Weaver Street Market will provide pastries and coffee.
