Jazz and You! workshop announcement!
We are very pleased to be able to offer a unique opportunity for the community to take part in a Jazz workshop the morning before the Jazz festival!
Based on the Jazz for Young People Curriculum developed by Jazz at Lincoln Center, the primary goals of this lecture-demonstration are to share, teach, and celebrate jazz music!
Recording artists Lois Deloatch (vocalist) and John Brown (bassist) will conduct a ninety (90) minute jazz workshop that enables participants (musicians, vocalists, and the community-at-large) to experience and better understand jazz and its musical predecessors, Blues and Spirituals.
This fun and interactive presentation is designed to engage people of all ages in the exploration of traditional and contemporary jazz.
Emphasizing the use of music as a means of communicating within and across cultures, the workshop will incorporate both improvised and composed music.
Details and registration information are available at the Jazz Workshop page.

Jazz Festival History:
The outdoor Jazz festival was sponsored by the Orange County Parks and Recreation Department.
By 2008, the successful event had over 5,000 attendees with internationally recognized, recording artist Nnenna Freelon heading the bill. Due to a decrease in funding for the budget of the Recreation Department, the festival did not take place in 2009.
Because of the important contribution the festival made to our community, the Hillsborough Arts Council is bringing this culturally significant event back to Orange County with a new name:
The Hillsborough Jazz Festival.
This years theme is "celebrating Billy Strayhorn" to honor jazz legend, Billy Strayhorn. Strayhorn is best known for his successful collaboration with bandleader and composer Duke Ellington lasting nearly three decades. What is less well known is that he has family history in Hillsborough.
Thanks
The Hillsborough Jazz festival acknowledges the vision of James Hester, Geoff Hathaway and Time and Tide Productions in helping to make this festival possible.
More details coming soon... Stay tuned!
