Riparian and Oceanic Interactive Watercolors

The
Gallery at the Hillsborough Arts Council features "Riparian
and Oceanic Interactive Watercolors” by Renee Montague
at 220 South Churton Street. The work is a series of watercolors
created by interacting with the Eno River at Ayr Mount in Hillsborough
and the Atlantic Ocean in Wrightsville Beach. Her method of interacting
with these bodies of water includes working ‘a plein air’, submerging
the papers into living waters, capturing the energy, movement and mood
of the surrounding environment with vibrant watercolors and allowing the
papers to dry by the sun and wind. Due to the unique response of
watercolor to salt water, sand and river silt, these watercolors take on
a life of their own following the intention of the artist, but
expressing the nature and chemistry of the waters. The show runs from

Each year up to 16 high school juniors from Cedar Ridge and Orange High are chosen to participate in the Creative Expression Program. Under the direction of Pip Merrick, the program matches highly motivated students with working artists as mentors in the completion of a creative project.
