They draw from a vast repertoire of American traditionalmusic—“Americana” is often used to describe their style, but the Harris Brothers just call it music. David Russell warmed the sold-out January Parlor Concert audience with a virtuoso's mastery of piedmont-style guitar combined with a polished, beautiful voice. He kept the intimate setting joyous with an easy-going collection of stories, with memories of country, bluegrass and honky-tonk moments, and even played off the occasional audience comments with ease. The man has played great halls, and dives, and knows how to enjoy a crowd, or a  small, friendly room that is the hallmark of the Parlor Concert series from the HAC.

He honored Doc Watson, the Delmore Brothers, and the Louvin Brothers... even sang a song by Stephen Collins Foster and several choice songs he had written. His command of classic country music styles left the lucky Parlor Concert-goers in full appreciation. Many told him so during the fine hors d' oeuvres and wine and dessert reception that followed the two sets with intermission.

Thank you Diff and Bill Whitmore for sharing your beautiful home; the Hillsborough Arts Council volunteers for good planning and wonderful refreshments; our special corporate sponsors, Corporate Investors Mortgage Group of Chapel Hill, represented by Erika Griffin; and Matthew's Chocolates, our good neighbor in Hillsborough.

And thanks, David, for a great concert. A fabulous musical journey was taken by all.
