Call for Gallery Exhibitors for 2020

The Hillsborough Arts Council Gallery’s mission is to empower local artists to forge productive cultural and socio-economic ties with their community through professional exhibit opportunities in HAC Gallery. We are a gallery founded on the principle that art is a vehicle for intellectual, cultural, and socio-economic growth and that it is the community’s responsibility to collectively support the arts. We provide a free space with no commercial pressure so that you can make your best work and actively engage with this community in the way you choose. If you’ve never visited us, please familiarize yourself with our gallery and history before applying, especially since the remodel in January 2019, which created a dedicated gallery space.

We want to keep the application process simple, but you do need to have a clear vision of how you plan to use your time at the gallery. By allowing you to exhibit here, we are trusting you entirely with this space. Our relationship with you requires that you live up to that trust. This means being professional in the presentation of your work and being professional in your approach and execution of your exhibit.

We rely entirely on the connection that you create with the community and we need you to be fully engaged in creating and nurturing that connection. In showing at the HAC Gallery, you become a part of the HAC Gallery lineage: it is every artist’s voice that defines and redefines the HAC Gallery existence. Preference is given to artists who have not had an exhibit in HAC Gallery in the previous 3 years.

This is what we require from all Exhibiting Artist who use our space in 2020 and 2021:

  1. Commit to attend and meet the public at an artist’s reception in the gallery from 6-9 pm during Last Friday Art Walk.

  2. Commit to providing an exhibit title, brief description and images for publicity at least 8 weeks prior to your exhibit.

  3. Undertake all aspects of installation and de-installation of your work with our gallery committee.

The Hillsborough Arts Council has been active in developing and supporting the arts locally for more than 30 years. The HAC Gallery is one of the avenues we use in that service. The Hillsborough Arts Council is the official Hillsborough, NC, arts council endorsed by the Town of Hillsborough and the North Carolina Arts Council. The Council is incorporated in the state of North Carolina as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
