Hillsborough has my HeART

Updated: Apr 15, 2019

I hope you're are excited as I am for the arts and culture events taking place around town on the last weekend in April. We've got a full weekend of arts programming coming your way from April 26-28, that includes live music, great food, exciting partnerships, and of course, loads of art. HAC has some great (FREE) events that weekend, continue reading to learn all about them.

The weekend of April 26th includes our first Last Friday Concert of 2019, along with our extended Art Walk featuring 12 venues in walkable Historic Downtown Hillsborough. Saturday we will be hosting the annual Art in the Heart of Hillsborough Art Fair at the Visitors Center, followed by our final parlor concert of the season on Sunday.

To kick off the weekend, are are excited to be a part of Orange County Schools' Cultural Explosion on Thursday, April 25. An event designed exclusively for OCS students and families to help connect kids with other cultures and traditions. HAC is proud to be an invited guest for this event and will have a booth with an interactive art project for kids of all ages.

Friday we present our first of six Last Friday Concerts with music from the Mighty Messengers of Soul. They bring high energy "soul-injected fun" to the Last Friday celebration and will play at the Old Courthouse adjacent to dozens of arts, crafts, food, and non-profit vendors where you can shop, learn, and enjoy. Don't forget to stop by the HAC tent for info on other events and programs, stickers, and to just say hello to our dedicated volunteers! The concert runs from 6:30-9:30 pm, so you'll also have plenty of time to visit our 12 extraordinary Art Walk venues and see all of the artist receptions and exhibitions around town that evening.

Saturday the HAC team will be downtown bright and early to prepare for a full day of art and entertainment at the Hillsborough Visitors Center (150 East King Street). The Art in the Heart of Hillsborough Art Fair runs from 10:00 am-4:00 pm and features nearly 50 artist booths, with some of the highest quality work from Hillsborough and the surrounding areas. We'll have live music from Steven Smith, Muse Road, and Brian Tierney & Dave Bininay on the lawn, along with food trucks, and a beer garden hosted by local brewers. At 10:00 am we'll open the day with a dedication to the Art Fair's founder Marie Smith, who started this program 11 years ago to help connect the artists with the Hillsborough Community. Friends, family, and all community members are encouraged to join us at that time to share in gratitude for everything she was able to give the Hillsborough Arts Community.

Sunday we'll head into the historic downtown neighborhood for the last Parlor Concert of the season with help from Music Maker Relief Foundation. Our lucky ticket holders will have an intimate show by the Glorifying Vines Sisters. However, this show is completely SOLD OUT - we were just too excited not to mention it. Learn more about Music Maker Relief Foundation and where you might catch another show from one of their artists soon.
