Award-winning sculptor Patrick Dougherty, known for his unique monument-scale environmental works, had designed more than 260 installations worldwide–from Scotland to Japan to Belgium and all over the United States–over the last 30 years.

October through December 2015

The Hillsborough Arts Council Gallery and Gift Shop presents the "Hillsborough Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Show" featuring a select group of fine artists and skilled craftsmen who have previously shown their works in the HAC Gallery and Gift Shop. The show runs from October 30 through December 20. Opening reception on October 30 from 6 - 9 pm. There will also be a Reception on December 4 from 6 - 9 pm for the Holiday Art Walk.

The Hillsborough Arts Council Board of Directors invites you to attend our volunteer appreciation reception on Tuesday, February 3 at 7:00p.m. at the HAC gallery and office at 102 N. Churton St.

The reception will be dedicated to our 75-plus volunteers who make our programs possible, and to anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer. With your help, HAC is doing great things.

Please join us to meet our Board and volunteers, learn more about HAC, and talk about what we can do together. Feel free to bring a friend.

We need 4 different types of volunteers to help with the Patrick Dougherty Stickwork installation, so all skill levels and ages are welcome. Each shift is 4 hours and we ask that you are available for the entire shift. You are also welcome to volunteer multiple days and throughout the process. The project continues rain or shine.

Gathering Crew (4 hour shift)

8-12 morning and 1-5 afternoon shifts

Oct 6, 7, 8

We need volunteers to go off site (we will let you know the exact location ahead of time) to help cut, bundle and transport saplings. This job requires use of loppers and hand clippers. We need to gather about five flatbed loads so energetic and physically fit people are encouraged to participate. This work is not done at the Garden so volunteers must provide their own transportation to gathering site.

Leaf stripping crew (4 hour shift)

8-12 morning and 1-5 afternoon shifts

Oct 8, 9, 10

Volunteers will strip the leaves off the saplings. This may happen at the gathering site or at the Botanical Gardens so volunteers may need to provide their own transportation to off site location.

Construction Crew (4 hour shift)

8-12 morning and 1-5 afternoon shifts

Oct 13-24

Volunteers will assist in the construction process, moving scaffolding, sorting materials, assisting the weaving process, cleaning up the site, and talking to the public.

Maintenance Crew

Ongoing after Oct 24

This group of volunteers will meet periodically to help maintain the sculpture after the construction process. The maintenance crew will replace and clean up materials around the installation. We hope to keep the sculpture in peak condition for as long as possible so we are looking for a longer term commitment from this group.
