ABOUT THE VENUE: First, built in 1821, the Burwell School Historic Site is a gem of historic Hillsborough, NC, located at the northern edge of the town's famed Historic District. Restored and open to the public, the early 19th century house and outbuildings bring history alive for visitors of ALL ages! Visit this site to explore the complex, multi-layered stories of freedom seeking and oppression through the lives of Elizabeth Hobbs Keckly, Mary-Ann, Anna Burwell, and more.

ABOUT THE VENUE: Est. 1992, the co-op began as a group of individual artists creating art at 102 W King Street. We are currently eight artists who use a wide range of media and share a quest to expand the presence of art on the planet. We open our studios monthly sharing our latest work. Recently, we began creating Coop Special Events where we, in collaboration with guest artists, create interactive art experiences for the public.

MONTHLY HAPPENING:
Artist Receptions for sterling silver and gemstone jewelry by Arianna Bara, nature and figurative art by Ryann Carey, painted gourd sculptures by Martha Danek. In the gallery August 27th through September 22nd.
Live music by Hillsborough local, Ben Fisher, on the patio in front of the gallery. Ben plays folk, medieval and early renaissance music on a Pono Nui - a very large ukulele.
The Hillsborough Gallery of Arts is owned by 21 local artists featuring painting, sculpture, photography, photomontage, glass arts, jewelry, handcrafted furniture, pottery, scratchboard, painted gourds and mixed media.

Inside, grab a cool drink and explore our Featured Artist, Clarke Munford! A NC-based visual artist with a primary focus in oil painting shares striking paintings. Using his background in charcoal figure drawing, Clarke explores local history, "emphasizing tonal value in the pursuit of realism." His work has been featured in the NCMA, RFAS, CAM Raleigh, Artsplosure, VAE Raleigh, FRANK Gallery and Frameworks Raleigh.

ABOUT THE VENUE: Saltire Gallerie features an ongoing collection of fine oil paintings, mostly 19th and 20th century Scottish, and also European art. We plan to spice it up this year with contemporary offerings in our ever-evolving collection. Highland landscapes, Scottish colourist paintings, impressionism, expressionist, and equestrian and canine subjects. Our theme, ‘A Sense of Place’ reflects art in our 18th century Scottish-built historic home. Worth a visit!
