BYO LANTERN GUIDELINES:
Lanterns should be handmade and winter-themed.
Please use white, yellow, or blue LEDs only. No red and green. No flames.
Bells and chimes welcome.
The most important thing is to get creative and have fun with it!
We encourage you to bring your wildest lantern dreams to life for this event! Check out our Pinterest Board (linked above) to help stir your imagination.
Want to protect your lanterns from the elements? Seal paper lanterns by coating them with a clear aerosol lacquer spray.

Make & Take Table - HAC Gallery & Gift Shop

Drop in to the HAC Gallery & Gift Shop starting at the November 24, 2023 Last Friday & the Art Walk to decorate and take home a paper-mâché lantern for this year’s Solstice Lantern Walk! We'll be adding paint, paper, leaves and flowers, glitter, and more to lantern shells prepared in advance by incredible HAC volunteers.
Advanced Lantern-Making Workshop - Eno Arts Mill
Saturday, December 2, 2023, 3:30-6:30 pm
$25 per participant
First-come, first-serve, and space is limited!
Ages 12 and up. We will be using hot and sharp tools, and all adults and guardians will be asked to sign a release waiver.
Join HAC along with our teaching artists, fellow community member, and Solstice Lantern enthusiast, Maureen Noh, at the OCAC Eno Arts Mill on Saturday, December 2nd, 3:30-6:30 pm, for an Advanced Lantern-Making Workshop! Maureen will generously offer guidance toward bringing your wildest lantern dream to life. You may recognize Maureen from her incredible octopus lantern, featured at previous Solstice Lantern Walks.
This workshop aims to support participants in building advanced lantern shapes in preparation for the Solstice Lantern Walk!
Supplies: Essential supplies for lantern making will be provided. However, participants are encouraged to bring any specialty tool or supplies that inspire their creations, especially if they have specific ideas about shapes, fabrics, sentimental elements, greenery, or similar items.
Guidance: Maureen Noh and HAC volunteers will offer guidance throughout the workshop to help participants bring their creative lantern ideas to life.
Tips for Participants:
Inspiration: Come prepared with an idea for the shape or design of your lantern. Use this time to brainstorm and be inspired by what you'd like to create. We encourage sourcing inspiration from nature and the environment!
Specialty Supplies: Bring any specialty supplies or tools that inspire you or are integral to your lantern design. This could include specific shapes, fabrics, sentimental elements, or greenery.
