Alongside the Last Fridays Makers Markets, catch the Live on the Lawn: Performance Series presented by HAC (April - October, 2025, 5:30-8:30 PM) on the South Lawn of the Old Orange County Courthouse! 

Immerse yourself in exciting performances, including dance troupes, bands, vocalists, comedians, poets, and more! 

 

We encourage you to pop up a lawn chair, lounge on a blanket, or bring your own art projects to participate while you witness Live on the Lawn through writing, coloring, painting, knitting/crocheting, or any mobile art that lights your fire!

Diali Cissokho Trio

6-8 PM Living Arts Collective ft. Diali Cissokho Trio with Special Guests!

Living Arts Collective, founded by Aubrey Roze and co-directed with Brü Roze, is a Durham-based arts hub dedicated to embodied practice, creative expression, and community connection. They bring live music to the lawn in collaboration with the Diali Cissokho Trio — featuring internationally recognized artists whose work is rooted in West African musical lineages and global collaboration. Blending kora, percussion, and improvisational expression, this performance creates a welcoming space for all ages to gather, listen, and connect through rhythm, storytelling, and shared experience.

Bring a blanket and food to share; hang out, relax, and listen to live music!

Diali Cissokho

Diali Cissokho

Diali Cissokho, a virtuoso kora player and percussionist from Senegal, hails from a long line of Manding griots, whose role as historians and storytellers has been passed down through generations. Diali’s music, steeped in his ancestral heritage, merges explosive rhythms with hypnotic grooves, sharing the history, wisdom, and spirit of his culture through song. After years of performing in Senegal and Europe, Diali moved to the U.S. to continue spreading the beauty of traditional West African music.

Will Ridenour

Will Ridenour

Will Ridenour, a kora player and percussionist from Greensboro, NC was drawn to West African music after a life-changing encounter with traditional dance. Studying in Mali and Senegal, Will’s music blends both traditional and modern global influences with his original melodies. He has performed in 40 states and 28 countries and works with a variety of artistic ventures across North Carolina, including the West African dance band Kaira Ba and Paperhand Puppet Intervention.

Atiba Rorie

Atiba Rorie

Atiba Rorie, a skilled percussionist and founder of the multi-genre band Africa Unplugged, has studied with masters such as Bradley, Simmons, Babatunde Olatunji, and Chief Bey. His performances span prestigious venues worldwide, from Dance Africa in New York to Presidential Inauguration Celebrations. Atiba teaches at Guilford College and continues to inspire with his mastery of percussion, using music as a tool for connection and healing.

Aubrey Roze

Aubrey Roze

Aubrey Roze (she/her+) is a dancer, percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, as well as the founder of Living Arts Collective. NC. As a lifelong dancer and teacher, she has engaged a wide range of movement traditions, with a focus on partner and social dance practices. Her work explores both the distinct cultural lineages of these forms and the ways they connect—revealing shared languages of rhythm, relationship, and communication.

Brü Roze

Brü Roze

Brü Roze (he/him+) is a harpist, multi-instrumentalist, dancer, and instrument maker based in Durham, NC. He helps lead the Living Arts Collective and the Durham Salt Cave. His music and movement emerge from improvisation and ancestral traditions that support the body, spirit, and community. With his wife and father, he co-runs Ritmo+Roots, where they build and create drums and instruments inspired by rhythms and cultures from around the world.
