So Much News!

We've been busy, y'all.

In between Last Fridays concerts, while dodging plein air painters around Orange County and prepping for our biggest event of the year - we've been getting ready for our fall lineup which is packed with wonderful fun, art, and opportunity.

But before we get into that - don't forget to drop into the River Park Concert this weekend to see an amazing lineup of musicians playing a FREE show in Hillsborough. That's right, free, because #happinessisfreein27278. October 19, 12-8PM in Riverpark. More info on our site.

We are excited to share that our juried call for artists for the 2020 Art in the Heart of Hillsborough Art Fair is NOW OPEN! We're taking applications from artists in nearly all media for booths at the April 18th Art Fair. The show features over 40 artists, food trucks, live music, and local breweries. The application is open until January 6th, and has a $25 application fee. The timeline and other costs are all listed on the site, as is a link to the full application.

We're also looking for a few more committee members to help make this event happen, interested? Email us at info@hillsboroughartscouncil.org.

We are also happy to officially announce the dates for the 5th Annual Solstice Lantern Walk! The Winter Solstice marks the beginning of the winter season in the Northern Hemisphere, and the longest night of the year. This astronomical event is significant to many cultures, religions, and traditions, for many different reasons. For the Hillsborough, NC community, it has become a beautiful evening to gather and recognize the peaceful quiet that the darker, colder months of the year can bring.

This event will take place on Saturday, December 21 at 5:45 pm. We will once again be selling lantern making kits at the Gift Shop (check-ink in soon!) for $5; these kits include everything but the glue! Each kit makes 1 complete paper lantern.

Participation in the lantern walk is FREE but does require registration. This helps us track just how many people to expect. You can register here, or join us that evening as a volunteer and get a front-row spot to watch this beautiful processional of lanterns along River Walk.

Right about now you must be asking yourself, how much more is there?

Well...

We are ready to start gathering a planning committee for the 2020 Handmade Parade! Interested in becoming part of the team that makes the magic happen? The event is expected to take place in October of 2020. Check out videos, images, and information from past Handmade Parades here and let us if you want to join in the fun by emailing info@hillsboroughartscouncil.org.

Of course, don't forget our Wet Paint Sale continues through November and you can knock out your holiday shopping this season at our Gallery and Gift Shop. The shop features dozens of local artists in a wide variety of styles and media - including ornaments and other holiday giftables. We have something for everyone on your list.
